A fifth entry was planned for Ferrari, which ended up not materializing, as well as a sixth for Alfa Romeo with Chiron, who finally raced with Talbot-Lago #20. Consalvo Sanesi was hospitalized for burns during a refueling in practice, and was replaced by De Graffenried. Ken Richardson did not have his license released by the RAC and was replaced by Hans Von Stuck, who did not participate in official practice. BRM eventually withdrew from participating in the race, as they believed their gearbox was not safe enough, so neither Stuck nor Parnell started. According to comments at the time, Maurice Trintignant did not feel well and was replaced by Jean Behra, a fact hidden from the officers by Gordini so as not to have extra expenses with a new registration. For official records, Trintignant was listed as the Gordini driver. |
