Ascari and Villoresi, Lancia drivers, were allowed to drive for other teams until their cars were ready. They ended up taking the seats of Musso and Mantovani at Maserati, which were on an initial list, which also saw Berger at Gordini with #28, replaced by Frère, Berger eventually using #30 replacing Pilette. Mantovani ended up using Moss spot at #40, as Moss’s Maserati (2508) ended up with Villoresi. Farina, Swaters and Collins did not attend. Musso ended up being Maserati’s reserve, a role held at Mercedes by Lang, Riess and Uhlenhaut. |
