Mercedes has named Fangio, Kling, Lang and Riess for an initial list, with Herrmann and Uhlenhaut as reserves. Then officially Herrmann became a starter in place of Riess with #20 and Uhlenhaut a reserve in that same spot. There is a doubt about #17, the official program quotes Wharton - Maserati, some sources mention that he participated in practice but did not start, while others mention that he did not even attend the event (which would be more logical, since his car had been given to Bira in the 2509/2504 exchange and Bira’s old car probaly was not ready yet). Other sources mention Daponte with #17, participating in practice, but withdrawing after Marimon’s death. Krause did not attend. |

Onofre Marimón died in an accident during practice. Maserati officially withdrew Villoresi. The cars of Moss, Mieres and Mantovani, although receiving official support from the factory in this round (Moss’ car was even painted red), were private and participated in the race, but without the name Officine Alfieri Maserati. |
